About

ROAD TO MY CAREER
I, Britton Mosley, Jr., was born in Lowell, Mass., and was raised in a small, country town in Mississippi called State Line. Being from a rural area, you immediately become a close friend with nature. Living in an area where you see variety of ecosystems and seeing different functions of the Earth, you will immediately gain an interest in different aspects of nature and Earth as a whole. As a student in middle and high school, I gained a inquisitive interest in science where i excelled in quickly. Later in my junior year of high school (Wayne County High School), I attended the Army High Performance Computing Research Center internship at Jackson State University. This intership was about weather modeling and studying different climatic features. This quickly gained my interest into attending Jackson State University, and also helped me to find a career path.

After receiving a A.A. degree from Jones County Junior College (Ellisville, MS), I enrolled into Jackson State University as a Earth System Science major. This has been an success for me ever since I place my feet in the door. The following summer I was accepted to attend an internship at Penn State University studying Hydrogeophysics for 3 weeks. This internship was a complete success where I learned alot about a variety of (Geo)field instrumentation, modeling, advanced mathematics and physics, and more. After the internship, I was hired on with the United State Geological Survey in the SCEP program. This is one of the greatest experience I ever had in a career related field. I have learned so much that has been beneficial to me not only in the work force, but in my field of study at JSU. As of May of 2011, I will complete the program here at the USGS, and will be attending an RESESS intership with the University of Colorado studying Earth Solids.

My future plans is to finish undergraduate school with a high grade point average in May of 2011. I have not decided where I will attend graduate school, but University of Colorado and Penn State University is definitely at the top of my list. My research as a graduate student will be based on a decision I will make after I get a feel of what I am mostly interested in. As far as future employment, I have several options I am observing to confirm. I plan participate in more volunteer work within different communities. I always wanted to take what I learned, and teach it to the younger generation. I strongly believe our future lies within the hands of the young which includes me.

This career has changed my life in so many positive ways. I could not ask for a better career and life because I am actually doing something I have a passion for. Over my life, I always been familiar with the outdoors especially being from a rural area in Mississippi you have no choice.

CONTRIBUTIONS
My two parents(Britton and Brenda Mosley) and one grandparent(Ora Lee Debose) has been a great inspiration and motivation towards my career. I remember my parents saying "Don't worry about where you at now just remember where you trying to go and never forget where you came from". My sister (Brenitra Mosley) help paved the way for my excellence. Actually, family and friends as a whole has given me that boost to succeed in life. My life was like a puzzle, and it was up to me to correctly place the pieces together which gave me the big picture. ALso, my church family and community who keeps me in their prayers and give me priceless advice. Overall, I thank God for the blessings He has given me and has in store for me.
